Bio

Maria Gasparian is a London-based ceramic design artist and architect. Her multidisciplinary practice combines ceramic art, architecture, and design to create and integrate architectural ceramics into urban spaces, landscapes, and the built environment. The aim of the practice is to provide multisensory experiences through tactile and coloured ceramic interventions such as street furniture, decorative surfaces and elements for landscaping and buildings that creates a socially inclusive and engaging environment. 

Her PhD Thesis "Enabling Design, Manufacturing and Integration of Functional Decorative Architectural Ceramics Through Design and Ceramic Practices" creates multisensory experiences through bespoke, tactile and coloured ceramic surfaces. Maria's work encompasses sculptural elements and street furniture to create unique, vibrant environments that are site-specific to embody a sense of place. She makes decorative, bespoke bricks and tiles that combine traditional craft methods, digital techniques and industrial manufacturing through collaborations with manufacturers, architects, engineers, façade specialists, and specialist contractors.
